Yesterday night I tweeted:
If another guy asks me what my real name is (meaning my Chinese name) I'll punch him. For serious.
#X (I'm not telling how many exactly. That's rude, me thinks) guys approached me and asked me what my name was and about 1/4X of them said, "wait, no, really? I mean your real name". Really guys? We're on college campus for one and you have to be at least 21 to get in here. Did that really come out of your mouth? Apparently so, because this is much how the rest of the conversations went on.
"That is my name"
"But... Don't you have, you know, a Asian name? Like your parents gave you one?"
"THAT IS MY NAME. My parents are pretty Americanized"
"Really? Where are you from?"
"America"
"No, really where were you born?"
"New York"
"Your parents?"
"My parents are Chinese"
"WOAH. That's cool!"
"Yea.. I've got to go to the bathroom. [Liz, Sara] PLEASE COME WITH ME"
Tip: for all the guys out there, if a girl tells you she has to go to the bathroom (with a friend), that means you failed. Do not try to pursue her further because that will just freak her out. This means, don't wait by the bathroom. Readers, don't laugh! This actually happens! And
that means some dudes still think it's cool.
But in retrospect, I'm not even
upset, which is weird. Sure, I will want to punch the guy-- mostly for the fun of finally doing it, but I guess I'm really not surprised.
And now I'm not sure which is worse...
BUT ANYWAY--
Yesterday night was actually the first time I went out on a Thursday night. I normally refuse to do this because I have a 3 hour class on Fridays. But I just realized that I CAN DO IT! I woke up 3 hours before class today and couldn't even go back to sleep!
BTW, 3 hours before class is 9AM
I should just make sure I don't have to be in a suit (for a presentation like I do today).
That is all
